RESEARCH AND DESIGN CENTER APPLIED CHEMISTRY

ABOUT US

General Director’s greeting

Dear friends!

I invite you to get acquainted with our scientific and technical centre and appreciate the high level of professionalism of our team.
Every existing production requires regular and prompt measures to strengthen the competitive advantage in the market, to develop, to optimise costs, to bring it to the constantly tightening safety and environmental standards.
Technical solutions for newly organised production require a competent feasibility study, which will allow us to consider the main possible options for implementation, take into account the prospects for the development of the enterprise, adjust to the possibilities of financing.
Any project starts with an idea, but very often it is at this stage that support and expert help is needed.
“Where to start a project, how to initially assess its potential? When and how to draw up the terms of reference? How to draw up an initial work plan so as not to lose time?” – all these and other questions arise and require quick solutions.
Having unique competences in creation or modernisation of chemical production facilities, our work is organised according to the “know how” principle, which means that none of the Customer’s tasks will “hang in time” and will not remain without a solution.
Our readiness to support the project from idea to industrial operation (inclusive) is a special guarantee of the quality of the work result, long-term and reliable partnership relations, which we pedantically follow and our clients highly appreciate.

CO-OPERATION WITH US MEANS STABILITY AND CONFIDENCE.

Regards to you,
General Director of RESEARCH AND DESIGN CENTER APPLIED CHEMISTRY
С.С. Krasnoperov

INFORMATION

The activities of Applied Chemistry Research and Design Centre are a full range of industrial engineering services (R&D, R&D, P&D and technical support) covering chemical, petrochemical, mining, metallurgical, pulp and paper, pharmaceutical and other industries. Our professional experience is the unique competences of the “Soviet” engineering school, enhanced by modern modelling and design tools. Our projects are hazardous, chemically hazardous, technically complex and unique facilities (enterprises) where chemical products are synthesised, processed, stored or utilised. Historically, these were large-tonnage and low-tonnage facilities for the synthesis of iodine, bromine, chlorine, fluorine and their derivatives. In addition to projects for technical re-equipment and reconstruction of existing enterprises, the main portfolio of orders consists of projects for construction of new production facilities. We work with both existing and newly developed technologies, with a range of works including their adaptation, optimisation and scaling.

THE TERRITORY OF OUR PROJECTS IS RF AND CIS (AZERBAIJAN, TURKMENISTAN, KAZAKHSTAN, LITHUANIA):

OUR PARTNERS

These are colleagues-counterparts with whom business and personal relations have been established for decades. For many years we have been in close cooperation with universities, scientific and technical centres, highly specialised institutes, technology licensors, the total number of which is more than 50.

THE MAIN TASKS FOR WHICH OUR REGULAR PARTNERS ARE INVOLVED:

Research and Development;

Mathematical modelling of processes and complex technological equipment;

Laboratory testing;

Experimental design work;

Technology development / localisation;

Pilot testing;

Engineering and survey works.

All work carried out with our fellow contractors is in any case monitored and managed by our project team. This synergetic collaboration allows us not to compete, but to multiply each other’s competences.

WE ARE ALWAYS OPEN FOR NEW CONTACTS, PLEASE READ THE INFORMATION IN THIS SECTION.

FOR PARTNERS

OUR TOOLS

Compressed lead times and high quality results are not all “constants” of the current reality of the Design and survey work market. The amount and types of additional work that has to be done as part of project development has gone far beyond the boundaries of “trivial drafting”:

— Volumetric visualisation of technical solutions, which is used in additional project materials (presentations, interactive instructions);

— Various samples of project data that are used in additional analytical work (extended variant elaboration, organisation of materials procurement, organisation of construction works, etc.).

— Basic (calculations) and additional (mathematical modelling) justification of correctness and optimality of the adopted technical solutions.

To fulfil these and many other additional activities, we had to fundamentally change the very approach to the design process. Mathematical modelling was put at the head of the process:

For this purpose, we have the necessary specialised software and computer-aided design systems (CAD):

— Modelling of chemical processes and equipment (material and energy balance, determination of basic parameters, algorithmisation);

— Applied calculations of equipment and networks by sections (hardware, strength, hydraulic, thermal, electrical, etc.);

— Building Information Modeling (BIM) + CAD for 2D.

— Calculations of building structures;

Even before foreign software and CAD developers left the Russian market, our company made a 100% transition to domestic licensed software.

OUR RESOURCES ARE THE MOST RELIABLE FOUNDATION OF OUR PROJECTS!

OUR SERVICES

Organisation and support of R&D, R&D, PIUs

Each chemical synthesis technology, regardless of its “ready” status, requires specification of a number of basic and auxiliary parameters.
This is primarily due to individual conditions in the task statement from the Customer:

Composition of feedstock

List, aggregate state, concentration of reagents

Production capacity

Climatic performance of the core technology, etc.

READ MORE

Thus, even a "ready" technology offered by the Licensor (developer, right holder and manufacturer of the technology in the form of basic equipment or "turnkey"), at least requires R&D, including laboratory work and refinement of the basic project (BP).

For the case when the technology does not exist and requires development, the set of works is considerably expanded and includes such stages as patent search, R&D with laboratory works, development of basic project (BP), R&D on the main technological equipment, creation and work on pilot plant (PP), final adjustment of BP.

Our research and design centre does not have the appropriate material and technical resources for independent execution, but has a sufficient level of its own competences and a register of partners to organise the execution of these works.

In case the Customer reserves the organisation of R&D, R&D, PIU implementation, we are ready to provide support of these stages.

In terms of scope of work, support is similar to technical audit, which may include (upon agreement) both basic verification calculations and detailed analytical verification of data, including compliance with the Russian Federation normative and technical documentation.

It should be added that these works can be performed in the format of engineering services at the following stages of the project, but in order to reduce the project implementation time, it is more advisable to do it at the stage of technology refinement or development.

Engineering

Engineering services include various engineering works and off-stage (pre-design) studies:

Engineering calculations

Circuit design of main and auxiliary processes

Development of equipment / installations, in the form of enlarged questionnaires or technical requirements

Layout of equipment/installations, in the form of layout solutions

Architectural design of buildings / shelters, in the form of volume planning solutions

Specifications of equipment, products and materials

Or carrying out complex pre-design work, in the form of:

Technical audit of the basic project (BP) for technology

Technology adaptation (localisation, scaling, transformation)

Conceptual Technical Solutions (CTS)

Main Technical Solutions (MTS)

Feasibility Study (FS)

Operational support

Operational support

In the course of facility operation, the Customer is often faced with the need to clarify the operating modes of technologies (especially if several independent units are envisaged), is interested in the development of temporary and permanent technological regulations, elaboration of production development options and a number of other engineering tasks, the solution of which was premature or impossible at the design stage. All these and other tasks are more convenient, faster and economically feasible to solve with the involvement of the project author, who knows the object perfectly and has all the necessary data.

Distribution of Licensors

Distribution of Licensors

Unfortunately, the transitional geopolitical and economic processes that have occurred in Russia since the 90s have fatally affected and continue to affect the industrial sector.

For these reasons, Russian enterprises are forced to purchase ready-made technological solutions from foreign Licensors.

Our research and design centre provides distribution services for technologies offered by Licensors.

The connections, reputation and competences of our institute, acquired over decades of work in the chemical industry, have a significant potential in terms of implementation of ready-made, complete technological solutions on the territory of the Russian Federation.

Terms of distribution are individual and are discussed in the process of interaction.

This approach:

- Contributes to the development of the market of chemical products manufactured in the Russian Federation

- Contributes to the development of the Russian chemical industry

- Replenishes and strengthens our professional competences

OUR APPROACH

WHERE TO START

Our approach in establishing a relationship is classic, yet the steps below can mutually save the most expensive resource – time:

1

Any interaction between companies always starts with addressing and exchanging information.
We would be very grateful if this appeal could be in the form of a formal enquiry, with details of a contact person.

2

We take a responsible and understanding attitude to the Customer’s desire to maintain the required level of confidentiality of information sent to us, therefore, at the first contact we offer to conclude a document of intent in the form of a co-operation agreement or confidentiality agreement. This document will reduce the timeframe for the transfer of the initial project data to us.

3

In case of absence of technical specification, the essence of the required works can be stated in the body of the application, as well as attach the available information, according to the list

4

After studying the provided initial data and requirements, discussing additional issues, we will provide a technical and commercial proposal, indicating: cost, terms, description of the scope of work, boundaries, exceptions, commercial terms.

5

In case of positive dynamics of agreeing the terms of work performance, we propose to initiate the procedure of initialling the contract.
We are interested in long-term co-operation, and for this purpose we offer our customers an initially comfortable, “framework” contract structure:
— Framework agreement
— Form of the engineering contract annex
— Form of an annex contract for full stage design
— Form of Contract-Application for Author’s Supervision (AS)
— Forms of documents (ToR, calendar plan, etc.)
The framework contract includes all the general requirements applicable to the three types of work.
Forms of contract attachments for each type of work include only the details of the work itself.
This approach allows you to significantly save time for the conclusion of the contract for the second and subsequent works, as the amount of information included in it is “compressed” to formalise only the most basic conditions.

Advantages of mandatory development of BTS

The aim of every project, at any stage, is to deliver the required technical performance.
Basic Technical Solutions (BTS) is an aggregated elaboration of technical solutions that are necessary and sufficient for the object to achieve the required technical performance.
A feasibility study (FS) is formed on the basis of the BTS.
The BTS or feasibility study are key factors in making a decision in principle to implement a project.

READ MORE

Below is the composition of the TPR, including a list of basic technical indicators of the project, in an aggregated form:

- Estimated productivity / capacity per unit of time;

- Operating mode;

- Structural diagram of the main process, with indication of the main work flows;

- Preliminary list of main equipment, with indication of basic qualitative and quantitative indicators;

- Preliminary list and composition of the facility infrastructure required for its functioning, with indication of basic qualitative and quantitative indicators;

- Preliminary plan of location (layout) of the main equipment and infrastructure facilities;

- Preliminary cost estimate;

The specified list of basic technical indicators of the project does not have a detailed elaboration, for these reasons has a manageable error, in the range of 20 - 30%. Taking into account the fact that this controlled error will be proportionally reflected in the financial indicators, the financial model obtained in this way gives accuracy sufficient for decision making.

The stage of BTS development with the assessment of capital (CAPEX) and operating (OPEX) costs, or feasibility study development, is a necessary and obligatory step of qualitative and comprehensive preliminary study of the project at its initial stage, allowing to minimise risks on key indicators: technical feasibility, budget, implementation time.

The assessment of the impact of the above risks on the project baseline indicators, in case of refusal to perform the PFS or feasibility study, can be presented in the form of statistical data:

From the presented data we can see that at 10% share of design and survey works (D&S) in the full project estimate, underestimated risks can increase the full project estimate by 1.5 times, as well as by 2 times increase the implementation time.

In this case, the conditions for performing an BTS or feasibility study are:

- Compressed lead time: 20 - 25% of the full-stage design lead time, or, in recalculated terms relative to the full project delivery time - no more than 5%!

- Budgetary cost: 15 - 25% of the preliminary estimate of the cost of design and survey works, or, in recalculated relative to the full project estimate - not more than 2.5%!

In addition, it should be noted that the scope of work performed at the ODP or Feasibility Study stage is not additional to the cost and timing of full-stage design, but is part of it.
